Ya she looks cute.. but did you see what she did to my floor and my wall???!!!!
Admitly I was not paying attention or else this would of never happen but.. I have told them many times PAPER ONLY, never on the floor or the walls when it comes to thier art projects. So when I was typing away on here yesterday and I hear the dreaded words.. "This is a big mess" come from Lilly, I ofcourse look up fast. Her and Sophia was trying to clean the floor with a sponge and tooth brush to get the evidance up before I would notice. Who said children are born with an innocent nature??!
Where did they get the BIG BLACK PERMANT MARKER from is still something of a mystery.. it was not with thier normal artist tools. We suspect Zane had left it out when he was using it for a Cub Scout project. I do remember telling Lilly Yes, when she asked if she could draw me a picture never thinking she would use the wall as her canvis. Lilly has been on an art kick lately.. drawing on every piece of paper she can get her hands on and stealing all my penciles and crayons and pens. I have been meaning to scan some of her work to brag about in here. I may have the next Mona here, but did her mom have to put up with permant balck marker on her so loved hard wood floor???
I wasn't too freaked about the wall.. I knew Josh could paint over it and this would be a good excuse to get him to do it and maybe get my bedroom painted too. It was my hardwood floor that I was freaked about! This is the first place we lived at that has hardwood flooring and I love it! Granted it is not perfect because of who ever lived here before had cats that they allowed to piss anywhere and that stained the floor.. this was why they did not put carpets down again but refinished the floor instead. There are some dark spots here and there but only if you really look can you notice them.
So How do you get PERMANT BLACK MARKER off the hardwood floor with out killing the finish on it?! I called Josh first, thinking he should know about these things since it is part of his JOB. I was thinking nailpolish remover may do the trick he was not sure if that was a good idea or not. He said to try just a sample on a cotten ball, not to pour it directly on the foor. So I did.. and it only made a bigger mess and smeared it. I do not want to ruin my floor. So I am jumping on line and trying to find an answer. My mom suggested I use hair spray. Intresting.. but I dont use hairspray so I dont have any in the house. Just about everyone I know said that earaser sponge from Mr Clean works great. And yes I have used it before on walls but never the floor and besides, I did not have any on hand. Josh gets home and is a tad upset that this all happen because I was not paying attention to the kids. He goes to the garage and gets out this tin can with the lable "OPPS" it said it worked on everything and on dried latexpaint. I asked him where he got that from. He said he gotten it org from work but ppl can get it at home depot or lowes. I couldn't find a link anywhere to put in for this entry. It worked great! But stank to High Heaven! If we hadn't opened up the house I could see myself being stoned from the fumes. It did dull the finish a bit so I got out my Murphy's Oil and wiped it right on there. Not too bad I think but again if you look close you can see some dark spots.
Oh my goodness. LOL Sorry, but it reminded me of what my four children did. What they did makes your child an angel. They got hold of all my perfume bottles and sprayed the house with it, painted bedspreads, and walls with red nail polish too. The house smelled like a you know what house...for over three months. Where was I at the time. Chatting on the phone with my sister. Kids! LOL

Man I would have flipped! lol...and thats why when we had the problem with our dog, we put in the fo-wood floors. Much easy to care for and loads cheaper. And I think all parents should invest in Opps...I've never heard of it, but looks like it did a darn good job to me! Hopefully no more surprise art work anymore! (((((hugs&love))))) ~Rachel
ReplyDeleteId on't know if it would work for your dillema, but I have found that the combination of baby wipes and Ger-X (or anyother alcohol based hand sanitizer) works wonders! I used it to clean the florrs in the school hallway when my preschool class spray painted a bench for the art festival. Overspray was EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!! There is also and new Magic Eraser from Mr. Clean I think that is supposed to work on that type of mess!

I hate to tel you this but I used my southern comfort one time to remove the markers and There is this thing called a miracle eraser at walmart in the sectoin with the cleaners its a mr clean eraser I have heard good stuff bout it. SO try it maybe. Other than that try gently a little tar removeal stuff from the car department lightlyon a rag. Thix stuff takes tar off cars and not the paint so may be good for your floors. Try that and let me knowl Lori
ReplyDeleteOh the joys of children! I remember my youngest doing something like that but, sadly, I don't remember HOW we solved or cleaned it up! Best of luck and keep that ban of markers and crayons in effect!
